Description Of Tungsten Carbide Strips

Tungsten Carbide Strips are high-performance flat-shaped products manufactured from tungsten carbide (WC) with a metallic binder such as cobalt (Co), nickel (Ni), or molybdenum (Mo) through powder metallurgy and HIP (Hot Isostatic Pressing) sintering processes. These strips combine the extreme hardness of tungsten carbide with the toughness provided by the metallic binder, creating a composite material that excels in demanding wear and cutting applications.

The manufacturing process begins with high-purity tungsten carbide powder mixed with cobalt or nickel binder, followed by ball milling, pressing into strip blanks, and vacuum sintering at high temperatures. HIP sintering ensures a uniform, dense microstructure with minimal porosity, delivering superior mechanical properties.

Tungsten carbide strips offer exceptional performance characteristics that far surpass conventional tool steels. With hardness values ranging from HRA 86.5 to 92 — more than ten times harder than mild steel (approximately HV 160 vs. HV 1600) — these strips maintain their cutting edges and wear surfaces under extreme abrasive conditions. The combination of high hardness, wear resistance (10–50 times that of steel), and good impact toughness makes them the material of choice for a wide range of industrial applications.

Features Of Tungsten Carbide Strips

Extreme Hardness: Tungsten carbide strips offer hardness of HRA 86.5 to 92, far surpassing tool steel. With a Vickers hardness of up to 1600 HV, they are more than ten times harder than mild steel (approximately 160 HV), ensuring superior wear resistance and extended service life.
