Description Of Premium Tungsten Carbide Rod

Premium Tungsten Carbide Rod is a high-performance composite material manufactured through powder metallurgy. It consists of tungsten carbide (WC) as the hard phase and metallic cobalt (Co) as the binder phase, with the material's performance derived from the synergistic effect of these two components. Through advanced sintering and precision processing, tungsten carbide rods achieve near-theoretical density and exceptional mechanical properties that far surpass traditional tool steels.

The tungsten carbide hard phase provides the material with its extreme hardness and wear resistance. With a hardness typically ranging from HRA 89 to HRA 94 — equivalent to HRC 70 to 85 — tungsten carbide rods are significantly harder than high-speed steel (approximately HRC 60 to 65). In terms of wear performance, tungsten carbide offers more than 5 to 10 times the wear resistance of high-speed steel, making it ideal for applications subject to high friction loads.

The metallic cobalt binder phase provides toughness and impact resistance. By adjusting the cobalt content — typically ranging from 3% to 25% — the material's hardness and toughness can be precisely balanced to suit different applications. Lower cobalt content (3–6%) yields higher hardness and wear resistance, while higher cobalt content (15–20%) improves toughness and impact resistance. The transverse rupture strength (TRS) of tungsten carbide rods generally ranges from 1,800 N/mm² to 4,000 N/mm², with some advanced grades achieving values exceeding 4,000 N/mm².

Tungsten carbide rods also possess a high elastic modulus (E modulus) of 550–700 GPa — approximately three times that of steel — providing exceptional rigidity and resistance to deflection under load. This combination of hardness, toughness, and rigidity makes tungsten carbide rods the material of choice for manufacturing high-performance cutting tools, molds, and wear-resistant components.

Exceptional Rigidity: With a high elastic modulus of 550–700 GPa — approximately three times that of steel — tungsten carbide rods provide outstanding rigidity and resist deflection under load, ensuring dimensional accuracy in high-speed machining operations.

Excellent Thermal Stability: Tungsten carbide maintains its hardness and mechanical properties at elevated temperatures, making it suitable for high-speed dry cutting conditions. The material's good thermal conductivity helps dissipate heat from the cutting zone.

Corrosion Resistance: Tungsten carbide offers good resistance to corrosion in various environments, extending the service life of components in demanding conditions.

High Compressive Strength: Tungsten carbide rods exhibit excellent compressive strength, making them suitable for high-pressure applications such as cold heading punches and stamping tools.
