Description Of Precision Ground Tungsten Carbide Plate
Precision Ground Tungsten Carbide Plate is a high-performance flat product manufactured from tungsten carbide (WC) with a metallic cobalt binder through powder metallurgy, HIP (Hot Isostatic Pressing) sintering, and precision grinding processes. These plates are precision ground to achieve tight dimensional tolerances, excellent flatness, and superior surface finish, making them ideal for applications requiring extreme precision and wear resistance.
The manufacturing process begins with high-purity tungsten carbide powder (100% virgin raw material, purity ≥99.95%) mixed with cobalt binder, followed by ball milling, pressing into plate blanks, high-temperature vacuum sintering, and HIP densification to achieve uniform microstructure and near-theoretical density. The sintered plates then undergo precision grinding, lapping, and polishing on advanced CNC surface grinders to achieve tight dimensional tolerances (±0.01mm), excellent flatness (≤0.005mm/100mm), and smooth surface finishes (Ra ≤0.8μm, with ultra-precision polishing achieving Ra 0.003–0.025μm).
Precision ground tungsten carbide plates inherit all the exceptional properties of tungsten carbide: extreme hardness (HRA up to 93.5), high density (up to 15.1 g/cm³), excellent wear resistance, high compressive strength, good transverse rupture strength (up to 4,300 MPa), and excellent thermal and chemical stability. These properties make them the material of choice for the most demanding precision applications.
Precision ground tungsten carbide plates are available in a wide range of grades, dimensions, and surface finishes to meet diverse application requirements across semiconductor, aerospace, medical, automotive, and general manufacturing industries.
Applications Of Precision Ground Tungsten Carbide Plate
Precision Molds and Dies: Precision ground tungsten carbide plates are widely used in progressive stamping dies, cold forging dies, precision punches and dies, and electronic component molds. The extreme wear resistance and dimensional stability of carbide plates significantly extend mold life and reduce downtime for mold changes.
Cutting Tools and Blades: Tungsten carbide plates are used to manufacture turning/milling inserts, slitting blades, woodworking knives, and various cutting tools for machining hardened steel, high-temperature alloys, and non-ferrous metals.
Wear Parts and Mechanical Components: Tungsten carbide plates serve as wear-resistant liners, protection plates, guide plates, and mechanical components subject to high temperature, wear, and corrosion.
Semiconductor and Electronics: Tungsten carbide plates are used in semiconductor packaging molds, wafer handling components, IC lead frame dies, and precision tooling for semiconductor manufacturing.
Aerospace and Defense: Precision ground carbide plates are used in aircraft engine components, aerospace fasteners, and high-precision structural parts requiring extreme wear resistance and dimensional stability.
Medical Devices: Tungsten carbide plates are employed in surgical instrument manufacturing, medical device components, and other high-precision, high-cleanliness medical environments.
EDM Electrodes: Tungsten carbide plates serve as EDM electrodes for machining hard materials. Due to tungsten carbide's high melting point and strong electrical corrosion resistance, it exhibits the lowest relative tool wear.
