Description Of API Tungsten Carbide Ball and Seat Blanks

API Tungsten Carbide Ball and Seat Blanks are semi-finished precision components manufactured from tungsten carbide (WC) with a metallic cobalt binder, designed to be finished into API-standard valve balls and seats for the oil and gas industry. These blanks are produced using 100% virgin raw materials through powder metallurgy and advanced sintering processes, resulting in a product with high density, extreme hardness, and exceptional wear resistance.

The API tungsten carbide ball and seat assembly is a critical component in sucker rod pumps and subsurface pumping systems. The valve ball (sphere) acts as the moving sealing element, while the valve seat (ring) provides the stationary sealing surface. When the pump operates, the ball is lifted by fluid pressure, allowing fluid to flow through; when the pump stroke reverses, the ball seats back into the seat, creating a metal-to-metal seal that prevents backflow. This sealing pair must withstand abrasive sand particles, corrosive fluids, high pressures, and cyclic loading in some of the most demanding downhole environments.

API tungsten carbide ball and seat blanks are manufactured and checked according to API Specification 11AX — the industry standard for subsurface sucker rod pumps and fittings. The material offers excellent properties including high hardness (HRA 87–92), good wear and corrosion resistance, strong anti-compression capability, and good thermal shock resistance. Finished pairs achieve a high sealing accuracy, demonstrated by a 5-second no-leakage performance under a vacuum of 64 MPa.

These blanks are available in standard API sizes ranging from V11-106 (5/8" ball) to V11-375 (2-1/4" ball), with various grades (YG6, YG8, YG11, YG13, YG15, YG20) and surface finishes (blank, rough ground, polished, nickel-plated, sand-blasted) to suit different finishing requirements and application conditions.

Features Of API Tungsten Carbide Ball and Seat Blanks
