Description Of Zr702 Zirconium Pipe

Zr702 Zirconium Pipe is a seamless or welded tubular product manufactured from unalloyed zirconium designated to ASTM B523 standard. It is produced through vacuum arc remelting (VAR), forging, hot extrusion, cold pilgering, and precision machining. R60702 is commercially pure zirconium with controlled hafnium content and excellent corrosion resistance, making it one of the most widely used zirconium grades in chemical processing and nuclear applications.

Zirconium 702 offers outstanding resistance to hydrochloric acid, sulfuric acid, nitric acid, acetic acid, and many organic acids. It is immune to stress corrosion cracking (SCC) and highly resistant to pitting and crevice corrosion. Its low thermal neutron absorption cross-section makes it indispensable in nuclear reactor components. The material also offers excellent heat transfer efficiency and very low thermal expansion, ensuring dimensional stability under thermal cycling.

Zr702 zirconium pipes are available in outer diameters from 6mm to 219mm, wall thicknesses from 0.5mm to 15mm, and lengths up to 6000mm, with custom sizes upon request. Surface finishes include pickled, polished, and annealed. The material complies with ASTM B523 / ASME SB-523, the standard specification for seamless and welded zirconium and zirconium alloy tubes. Typical applications include heat exchangers, condensers, reaction vessels, piping, pumps, valves, and nuclear reactor structural components.

Applications Of Zr702 Zirconium Pipe

  • Chemical Processing: Heat exchangers, condensers, reaction vessels, columns, piping, pumps, and valves handling hydrochloric acid, sulfuric acid, nitric acid, acetic acid, and other corrosive media.

  • Nuclear Industry: Structural components, fuel cladding supports, and reactor internals where low neutron absorption and high-temperature corrosion resistance are critical.

  • Urea and Fertilizer Production: Heat exchangers and piping in urea, acetic acid, formic acid, and nitric acid production.

  • Petrochemical Industry: Equipment exposed to strong acids and corrosive environments.

  • Medical Gas Pipeline Systems: Components requiring high purity and corrosion resistance.

  • Marine and Offshore: Seawater-cooled equipment and desalination plant components.

  • Aerospace: Lightweight structural components and high-temperature applications.

  • Research and Development: Laboratory crucibles, sample holders, and experimental components.
