Description Of Zr702 Zirconium Crucible | UNS R60702

Zr702 Zirconium Crucible is a laboratory and industrial-grade container manufactured from unalloyed zirconium to ASTM B550 standard. It is designed to hold and heat materials at high temperatures while resisting attack from aggressive chemical media.

Zirconium 702 is commercially pure zirconium characterized by immunity to stress corrosion cracking (SCC) and high resistance to pitting and crevice corrosion. Its corrosion resistance comes from a tightly adhered protective oxide layer (ZrO₂) that forms almost instantaneously on the surface. As a result, zirconium crucibles resist the corrosion of almost all acids—except hydrofluoric acid (HF), which is the only cleaning agent that should not be applied to zirconium crucibles .

Zirconium 702 crucibles are often used as a cost-effective replacement for conventional platinum labware due to their similar thermochemical properties . They are widely used for high-temperature applications such as metal and salt melting, and are ideal for highly corrosive fusion processes (lithium and sodium salt fusions) in analytical chemistry and chemical processing .

Available in tapered, low-form, and cylindrical shapes with capacities from 10 mL to 1000 mL. Standard wall thicknesses are 1mm, 1.5mm, and 2mm, with custom thicknesses available upon request . The material complies with ASTM B550 / ASME SB-550 and is manufactured under ISO 9001 quality systems.
