Description Of R60702 Zirconium Tube
R60702 Zirconium Tube is a seamless or welded tubular product manufactured from unalloyed zirconium designated as UNS R60702 (also known as Zr702). The material is characterized by an exceptional combination of corrosion resistance, heat transfer efficiency, and nuclear properties. Zirconium 702 is used in environments where even the best stainless steels are not sufficiently corrosion resistant, making it the ideal choice from both technical and economical points of view.
The chemical composition of R60702 zirconium tube includes Zr+Hf ≥ 99.2%, with controlled levels of hafnium (≤4.5%), iron+chromium (≤0.2%), hydrogen (≤0.005%), nitrogen (≤0.025%), carbon (≤0.05%), and oxygen (≤0.16%). The material is immune to stress corrosion cracking (SCC) and offers high resistance to pitting and crevice corrosion. It has very good corrosion resistance in most organic acids, exceptional corrosion resistance in mineral acids, and good corrosion resistance in strong alkalis.
R60702 zirconium tubes are typically supplied in the cold-reduced and annealed or partially annealed condition. Standard surface conditions include mill finish, acid etched, or belt polished. The seamless tube range covers outer diameters from 8 to 40 mm, wall thicknesses from 0.7 to 3.5 mm, and lengths up to 14.70 meters, with other dimensions available for special projects.
Features Of R60702 Zirconium Tube
Exceptional Corrosion Resistance: Immune to stress corrosion cracking (SCC); high resistance to pitting and crevice corrosion. Very good resistance in most organic acids, exceptional resistance in mineral acids, and good resistance in strong alkalis.
Hydrochloric Acid Resistance: Resistant to hydrochloric acid at all concentrations up to boiling temperature.
Nitric Acid Resistance: Resistant to nitric acid at all concentrations up to boiling temperature.
Sulfuric Acid Resistance: Resistant to sulfuric acid up to 70% concentration at boiling temperature.
Phosphoric Acid Resistance: Resistant to phosphoric acid up to 60% concentration at boiling temperature.
Organic Acid Resistance: Resistant to most organic acids (e.g., acetic, formic) at all concentrations up to boiling temperature.
Low Neutron Absorption: Low thermal neutron absorption cross-section makes it suitable for nuclear applications.
High Heat Transfer Efficiency: Excellent thermal conductivity (22 W/m·°C) for efficient heat exchange.
Very Low Thermal Expansion: Ensures dimensional stability under thermal cycling.
Good Formability: Can be bent at room temperature using standard bend tooling. Mandrel recommended for thin-wall or tight-radius bends.
Machinability: Routine machining with low cutting speeds, high feed rates, large volumes of coolant, and sharp tools.
Standard Compliance: ASTM B523 / ASME SB-523; UNS R60702.
