Description Of Forged High Purity Zirconium Bar

Forged High Purity Zirconium Bar is a solid round bar manufactured from high-purity zirconium through vacuum arc remelting (VAR) and subsequent forging processes. The forging process refines the grain structure, eliminates porosity, and significantly improves the density and mechanical properties compared to as-cast or sintered zirconium. The material is available in unalloyed zirconium grades Zr702 (UNS R60702), Zr704 (UNS R60704), and zirconium-niobium alloy Zr705 (UNS R60705).

Zirconium offers a unique combination of properties: outstanding corrosion resistance in hydrochloric acid, sulfuric acid, nitric acid, acetic acid, and strong alkalis; low thermal neutron absorption cross-section for nuclear applications; and excellent formability and weldability. Forged zirconium bars exhibit higher strength and better dimensional stability than their cast counterparts, making them suitable for critical components in chemical processing, nuclear reactors, and high-performance engineering applications.

Our forged high purity zirconium bars are available in diameters from 6mm to 150mm, with custom sizes upon request. Surface finishes include pickled, machined, and polished. The material complies with ASTM B550 / ASME SB-550, the standard specification for zirconium and zirconium alloy bar and wire. Typical applications include heat exchangers, condensers, reaction vessels, piping, pumps, valves, and nuclear reactor structural components.

Applications Of Forged High Purity Zirconium Bar

  • Chemical Processing: Heat exchangers, condensers, reaction vessels, columns, piping, pumps, and valves handling hydrochloric acid, sulfuric acid, nitric acid, acetic acid, and other corrosive media.

  • Nuclear Industry: Structural components, fuel cladding supports, and reactor internals where low neutron absorption and high-temperature corrosion resistance are critical.

  • Urea and Fertilizer Production: Heat exchangers and piping in urea, acetic acid, formic acid, and nitric acid production.

  • Petrochemical Industry: Equipment exposed to strong acids and corrosive environments.

  • Medical Gas Pipeline Systems: Components requiring high purity and corrosion resistance.

  • Marine and Offshore: Seawater-cooled equipment and desalination plant components.

  • Aerospace: Lightweight structural components and high-temperature applications.

  • Research and Development: Laboratory crucibles, sample holders, and experimental components.
