Description Of High Purity Niobium Crucible

High Purity Niobium Crucible is a high-performance refractory metal container manufactured from high-purity niobium (≥99.9%). Niobium is a silver-grey refractory metal with a melting point of 2477°C, excellent corrosion resistance, and superior high-temperature strength. These crucibles are designed for melting and casting reactive metals, rare earth metals, and high-purity alloys in vacuum or inert gas atmospheres.

Niobium offers a unique combination of properties that make it ideal for high-temperature crucible applications. With a melting point of 2477°C (the fourth-highest among all elements, after tungsten, tantalum, and rhenium), niobium crucibles can withstand extreme temperatures without melting or deformation. The material also offers excellent corrosion resistance to acids, alkalis, and most molten metals, and it does not react with reactive metals like titanium, zirconium, and hafnium, making it the preferred crucible material for these applications.

High purity niobium crucibles are available in custom shapes and sizes including cylindrical, tapered, and rectangular configurations. They can be supplied in machined, polished, or annealed surface conditions. Typical applications include melting and casting of reactive metals, rare earth metals, and high-purity alloys in laboratory and industrial settings.

Features Of High Purity Niobium Crucible

  • High Purity: Purity ≥99.9%, ensuring minimal contamination in critical melting applications.

  • High Melting Point: 2477°C, the fourth-highest among all elements, enabling use in extreme high-temperature environments.

  • Excellent Corrosion Resistance: Resists acids, alkalis, and most molten metals.

  • Superior High-Temperature Strength: Maintains mechanical strength and creep resistance at elevated temperatures.

  • Non-Reactive with Reactive Metals: Does not react with titanium, zirconium, and hafnium, making it the preferred crucible material for these applications.

  • Customizable Dimensions: Available in cylindrical, tapered, and rectangular shapes per customer requirements.

  • Surface Finishes: Machined, polished, annealed.

  • ISO 9001 Certified: Full traceability and quality assurance.

Precautions Of High Purity Niobium Crucible

  • Atmosphere Requirements: Niobium oxidizes rapidly at elevated temperatures in air. Use in vacuum or inert gas atmospheres (argon, helium) for high-temperature melting and casting to prevent contamination and embrittlement.

  • Hydrofluoric Acid Restriction: Niobium is NOT resistant to hydrofluoric acid (HF) and will be rapidly attacked. Avoid contact with HF-containing media.

  • Handling and Storage: Handle with care to avoid surface contamination or mechanical damage. Store in a dry, clean environment.

  • Cleaning: Clean with a soft cloth or mild solvent. Avoid abrasive cleaners that could damage the surface.

  • Thermal Shock: Avoid rapid temperature changes that could cause thermal shock and cracking.
