Description Of Polished Round Molybdenum Rod

Polished Round Molybdenum Rod is a high-purity refractory metal product manufactured from molybdenum powder through powder metallurgy, sintering, and subsequent thermo-mechanical processing such as forging, swaging, or rolling. The “Polished Round” designation indicates that the rod has been precision ground and then polished to achieve a smooth, mirror-like surface finish with low surface roughness (Ra ≤0.4μm). The “Round” indicates a circular cross-section with uniform diameter along the length. The high purity level (Mo ≥ 99.95%, 3N5 grade) ensures minimal contamination in critical high-temperature and semiconductor applications. The material is also designated as Grade Mo1 per ASTM B387 and GB/T 4188-2017 standards.

Molybdenum possesses a unique combination of properties that make it indispensable in high-temperature industrial applications. The manufacturing process begins with high-purity molybdenum powder (Mo ≥ 99.95%), which is pressed into bar blanks and sintered at high temperatures. The sintered bars are then processed through forging, swaging, or rolling to achieve the desired density and mechanical properties. Finally, the bars undergo precision centerless grinding followed by mechanical polishing or electrolytic polishing to achieve the specified diameter, straightness, and mirror-like surface finish. The polished surface can achieve Ra ≤0.4μm, with even finer finishes available upon request.

Polished round molybdenum rods are primarily used in semiconductor ion implantation components, high-temperature furnace heating elements and support rods, glass melting electrodes, and medical equipment.
