Description Of Titanium Square Rod

Titanium Square Rod is a solid, square-section bar manufactured from commercially pure titanium or titanium alloy through hot rolling, forging, extrusion, or precision machining. It is available in a wide range of grades — including GR1, GR2, GR3, GR4 (commercially pure), GR5 (Ti-6Al-4V), GR7 (Ti-0.15Pd), GR9 (Ti-3Al-2.5V), and GR12 (Ti-0.3Mo-0.8Ni) — to suit different strength, corrosion resistance, and temperature requirements.

Titanium offers an exceptional combination of properties that make it indispensable in demanding applications. With a density of approximately 4.5 g/cm³, it is about 60% lighter than steel while offering comparable or superior strength. Its melting point is 1668°C. Titanium exhibits excellent corrosion resistance in seawater, chlorides, nitric acid, and many organic acids, due to a stable, protective oxide film that forms naturally on its surface. The material is also non-magnetic, non-toxic, and biocompatible, making it ideal for medical implants and surgical instruments.

Titanium square rods are widely used in aerospace structural components, medical implants (bone plates, screws, artificial joints), chemical processing equipment, marine hardware, automotive parts, sports equipment, and heat exchangers. They can be supplied in pickled, sandblasted, machined, or polished surface conditions, with custom dimensions available upon request. Common standards include ASTM B348, AMS 4928, ASTM F136, and ISO 5832.

Features Of Titanium Square Rod

  • High Strength-to-Weight Ratio: Density of 4.5 g/cm³ — approximately 60% lighter than steel — with strength comparable to or exceeding many steels.

  • Excellent Corrosion Resistance: Stable protective oxide film provides outstanding resistance to seawater, chlorides, nitric acid, and many organic acids.

  • Outstanding Biocompatibility: Non-toxic, non-magnetic, and compatible with human physiological conditions, ideal for medical implants.

  • Good High and Low Temperature Performance: Maintains mechanical properties from cryogenic temperatures up to approximately 600°C for sustained use.

  • Non-Magnetic: Suitable for applications where magnetic interference must be avoided, such as MRI-compatible medical devices.

  • Good Machinability and Weldability: Can be machined with carbide tooling and welded using TIG or electron beam welding in inert gas atmospheres.

  • Multiple Grades Available: GR1, GR2, GR3, GR4, GR5, GR7, GR9, GR12 to suit different strength and corrosion requirements.

  • Customizable Dimensions: Square side lengths from 3mm to 300mm, lengths up to 6000mm, with custom sizes available.

  • Multiple Surface Finishes: Pickled, sandblasted, machined, polished, or as-rolled.

  • Standard Compliance: ASTM B348, AMS 4928, ASTM F136, ISO 5832.

Applications Of Titanium Square Rod

  • Aerospace and Aviation: Aircraft structural components, engine parts, fasteners, and landing gear components, where high strength-to-weight ratio and corrosion resistance are critical.

  • Medical and Healthcare: Surgical implants (bone plates, screws, artificial joints), dental implants, surgical instruments, and biopsy needles, benefiting from titanium's biocompatibility and corrosion resistance.

  • Chemical Processing: Reaction vessels, heat exchangers, pumps, valves, and piping systems handling corrosive chemicals, acids, and chlorides.

  • Marine and Offshore: Shipbuilding, offshore platforms, seawater desalination units, propeller shafts, and underwater equipment.

  • Automotive and Motorsports: Lightweight structural components, exhaust systems, and racing parts.

  • Sports and Recreation: Bicycle frames, golf club heads, camping equipment, and high-performance sporting goods.

  • Power Generation: Heat exchanger tubes, condenser tubes, and turbine components in power plants.

  • Industrial Equipment: Wear-resistant parts, fasteners, and structural components in demanding environments.
