Description Of OEM Titanium Weld Neck Flange

OEM Titanium Weld Neck Flange is a custom-manufactured pipe flange produced from titanium or titanium alloy to customer-specific drawings and specifications. The weld neck (WN) design features a tapered hub that transitions gradually to the pipe wall, providing smooth stress distribution and excellent resistance to fatigue and thermal cycling. It is the preferred flange type for high-pressure, high-stress, and critical piping systems.

Titanium offers a unique combination of properties that make it ideal for demanding environments. With a density of approximately 4.5 g/cm³, it is about 60% lighter than steel, reducing the overall weight of piping systems. Titanium also exhibits excellent corrosion resistance in seawater, chlorides, nitric acid, and many organic acids, due to a stable, protective oxide film that forms naturally on its surface. The material is non-magnetic, non-toxic, and biocompatible, and maintains good mechanical strength at temperatures up to 600°C (depending on grade).

OEM titanium weld neck flanges are available in multiple grades including commercially pure titanium (GR1, GR2, GR3, GR4) and titanium alloys (GR5, GR7, GR9, GR12). They can be manufactured to international standards including ASTM B381, ASME B16.5, DIN, EN, and JIS. Sizes range from 1/2" to 24" with pressure ratings from Class 150 to Class 2500. Face types include Raised Face (RF), Flat Face (FF), and Ring Type Joint (RTJ). Custom dimensions, tolerances, and surface finishes are available upon request.

Features Of OEM Titanium Weld Neck Flange

  • OEM Custom Manufacturing: Produced to customer drawings with full material and dimensional certification.

  • Weld Neck Design: Tapered hub provides smooth stress distribution, ideal for high-pressure and high-stress piping.

  • Excellent Corrosion Resistance: Resists seawater, chlorides, acids, alkalis, and many organic media.

  • Lightweight: Density ~4.5 g/cm³, about 60% lighter than steel, reducing piping system weight.

  • High Strength-to-Weight Ratio: Titanium alloys offer strength comparable to or exceeding many steels.

  • Multiple Grades Available: GR1, GR2, GR3, GR4, GR5, GR7, GR9, GR12.

  • Wide Range of Sizes: 1/2" to 24" (custom sizes available).

  • Pressure Ratings: Class 150 to Class 2500.

Usage Precautions and Limitations Of OEM Titanium Weld Neck Flange

  • Proper Installation: Titanium weld neck flanges must be installed by qualified personnel using correct welding procedures, gaskets, bolts, and torque specifications.

  • Welding Considerations: Titanium must be welded in an inert gas atmosphere (argon) to prevent contamination and embrittlement. TIG and electron beam welding are recommended. Clean surfaces thoroughly before welding.

  • Gasket Selection: Use gaskets compatible with titanium and the operating fluid. Avoid gaskets containing graphite or other materials that can cause galvanic corrosion.

  • Bolt Material: Use titanium or titanium-compatible bolts to avoid galvanic corrosion. If steel bolts are used, provide insulation or isolation.

  • Galvanic Corrosion: Titanium is a noble metal and can cause galvanic corrosion when in contact with less noble metals in the presence of an electrolyte. Provide insulation at dissimilar metal interfaces.

  • Hydrogen Embrittlement: Avoid exposure to hydrogen-containing environments at high temperatures, as titanium can absorb hydrogen and become brittle.

  • Temperature Limitations: Operating temperature should not exceed 600°C (depending on grade).

  • Cleaning: Clean flange faces with a soft cloth or mild solvent. Avoid abrasive cleaners.

  • Handling and Storage: Handle with care to avoid surface contamination or mechanical damage. Store in a dry, clean environment.
